INSTRUCTIONS - Hidden Winch Cradle (Isuzu D-Max 2020 to Current - 4JJ3) Posted on 27 Nov 08:59
Installation Guide:
The installation of the Munji Hidden Winch Cradle requires good mechanical and tool knowledge. It is important to follow these instructions; it requires you to cut metal and correctly line up the Bracing Straps.
N.B: NEVER REST ANY PART OF YOUR BODY UNDER A VEHICLE OR HEAVY COMPONENTS UNLESS YOU HAVE SUFFICENT SUPPORTS AS WELL AS THE JACK. A HEAVY WEIGHT CAN SLIP OFF A JACK OR THE SUPPORTS. PLEASE ALWAYS BE CAREFUL AND KEEP YOUR PHONE WITHIN REACH IN THE CASE OF THE UNEXPECTED.
- Begin by removing the top grille cover under the bonnet, grille and front bumper bar. For BT-50s, you need to unclip and slide the top painted panel of the bumper forward and off to get to all the clips for the top cover.
- Spray the Lower Bar Reinforcement bolts with a lubricant and then remove the 4 14mm bolts which hold it to the rail. The small bash plate that is attached to it will need to be removed as well. The lower plastic shroud for the radiator can also be unclipped and removed, along with the lower bumper brackets. The first bash plate can also be removed.
- Begin by fitting the small L-Shaped brackets to the chassis rails. There as 4 L-Shaped brackets and they are all different. You will see there are 2 brackets that have a small notch taken out of the short end, and 2 which don't have the notch. The brackets with the notch go on the inside of the rails, and the ones without on the outside of the rails. Refer to the photos below for the driver side rail, and repeat for the passenger side. These brackets will only go one way. To fit them, grab one of the 2x M10 x 80mm bolts, fit a flat washer to it and thread it through the RHS outer chassis bracket and through the hole along the side chassis shown below. You can then grab one of the 2x 56mm long crush tubes and thread it onto the m10 bolt, by pushing it from the inside of the rail as shown below. Finally fit the inner RHS L-Bracket, a m10 flat washer and Nyloc nut and loosely tension it:
-
- RHS INNER BRACKET -
- RHS OUTER BRACKET -
- M10 x 80mm bolt with flat washer fitted to outside L-Bracket -
- Crush washer fitted to bolt from inside of rail -
- Inner L Bracket fitted with flat washer and nyloc nut
-
- The winch cradle can now be bolted to the chassis, using the supplied M10 x 35mm bolts with a spring and flat washer for each of the factory welded nuts. Hand tight for now so the winch cradle can still move around as the rest of the bolts are fitted.
- For the 2x Outer L - Brackets, use a M10 x 35mm Bolt with a flat washer on the front of the cradle, with a flat washer and Nyloc nut on the back of the L-Bracket. The Inner L-Brackets use a M8x 35mm bolt with flat washers and nyloc nuts in the same arrangement. Refer to the photos below.
- You can now fit the remaining 2x M10 bolts and flat washers to the crossmember shown below. Tighten all the bolts fitted and doublecheck. Once tightened remove the 2x Bolts fitted to the crossmember so you can refit the bash plates after.
- You can now fit your chosen winch, and adjust back and forward until it sits where you like. If it contacts this bonnet support, you can trim it back for a bit more clearance:
-
- The bumper can be refitted and checked for clearance. The lower grille portion may need trimming around the winch depending on its size.
- You can fit the winch control box where it suits, this cars was fitted on the upper bumper reinforcement and a hole cut out of the top grille cover for access. A hole was cut out of the bumper for the winch handle as well.
- Now to fit the fairlead, remove number plate and drill 2x 40mm holes and slot or 1 big slot for fairlead, 55mm down from the number plate mounting points. Begin with drilling just the 2 mounting holes, then use your fairlead as a template to mark out the slot. Fit the fairlead using the larger 30mm OD, 35mm long crush tubes and 65mm M12 bolts provided. You will have an extra pair of crush tubes and washers for spacing the fairlead further. Different Models will require different spacing due to bumper bar lengths so we recommend testing which combination of crush tubes and washers puts the fairlead just in front of the bumper bar. You want a small gap around the fairlead as it will move independent of the body, being mounted to the chassis. We recommend refitting the number plate with a swing bracket for easy access to the winch.
